After the 7-year journey from ideation to release, the Air VaporMax represents a new era in Nike innovation. To truly capture the feeling of "running on air," the designers restructured the Air unit to be attached directly to the upper. As you step down, each lug gets pushed into the Air unit, ramping up the pressure. Then, as you step off, the pressure releases creating springy bounce with superior flexibility. The futuristic technology was quickly adopted by the street, bringing this light-as-air feeling to the masses.

Released in April 2019, the Nike: On Air collection gave six contest entrants from around the globe a chance to develop an Air Max shoe influenced by their hometowns. Joining forces with Nike designers, Cash Ru created the Air Max 97 'On Air: Shanghai Kaleidoscope' sneaker. Gazing into the distance for inspiration, Ru's blue synthetic translucent upper is accented with white multi-layered heel tabs, emulating floating clouds that stretch across the Shanghai sky.
The Nike ZoomX Vaporfly Next 2 Coconut Milk Ghost Green is a running shoe that was released as part of the Nike ZoomX Vaporfly Next series.
The upper of the Coconut Milk Ghost Green ZoomX Vaporfly Next 2 is designed with a VaporWeave material and comes in a Coconut Milk color with Ghost Green, Mint Foam, and Cave Purple accents. The shoe includes Flywire cables and has a Nike Swoosh that stretches from the toe to the side. The lacing system is designed on the side rather than the traditional center. Additional Swooshes are also displayed on the side, heel, and toe cap. The midsole boasts Nike's ZoomX foam technology, while the outsole features grooves on a durable rubber base.
The Air Zoom Alphafly NEXT% 3 Prototype is a Nike "super shoe" designed by the iconic sneaker company specifically to enhance the speed of marathon runners.
The Prototype colorway of the Air Zoom Alphafly NEXT% 3 features an upper constructed from white to pale orange gradient Atomknit. The "V62" on the medial side collar indicates that this is the 62nd version of this lightweight fabric, while the number of the midsole refers to a Nike test runner that put the most miles on this shoe. To complete the look of this upper, an oversized black Nike swoosh is printed across the quarter panel and extends onto the midsole.
The upper of the Premium Nike Air Zoom 37 Blue Ribbon Sports White starts with an upper base of breathable, lightweight white mesh that features a low collar for comfort and mobility. The blue outline of an oversized Nike Swoosh superimposes a stitched-on blue Nike Swoosh on the outer side, while a smaller blue Nike Swoosh adorns the collar of the inner side. A white and red Nike branding patch on the heel complements "1964" and "Running" branded heel tabs. Flat white laces close over a white tongue with exposed foam and match the sock liner and branded insole.
The MSCHF x INRI x Nike Air Max 97 'Jesus Shoes' allows the wearer to literally walk on water. A custom design conceived and engineered by Brooklyn-based creative agency MSCHF, the retro runner's Max Air unit is injected with 60cc of holy water, sourced from the River Jordan and blessed by a priest in Brooklyn. The pristine upper, constructed from blue-tinged mesh with white leather overlays, features a gold crucifix lace jewel and MSCHF branding on the left heel tab. 'INRI' is printed on the opposite tab (short for Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, which was inscribed on the cross), while the lateral forefoot is marked with an allusion to Matthew 14:25, the biblical chapter and verse that references Jesus' feat of walking on water.
The winter season will deliver more showering rainstorms and heavy blizzards, so it's crucial that you keep safeguarding footwear on deck. Luckily, Nike has responded to climate changes by releasing weatherproof footwear options for its fans, and the latest to get unveiled is this Air Max Scorpion installment with gaiters.
Locked in by straps that loop through the squiggly midsole, the protective pieces are essentially rain jackets for your feet and reinforce the kicks with a gorpcore look and feel. They're crafted with a windbreaker-type material, exaggerated in height as they soar up to the wearer's knee area, drape over the top of the shoes and are held down by buttons. Digitalized Nike logos are also printed over the shins. The shoes themselves are infused with a blend of neutral, earthy tones. Knitted base layers alternate between various shades of gray and come complemented by subtle splashes of blue down the throat and on the heels. Additionally, metallic silver finishes touch up the laces, perforated overlays on the front and the midsole molds.
Released as part of 'The Ten' collection from November 2017, Virgil Abloh's take on the Air Max 97 focuses on the shoe's upper. The retro runner's translucent build serves to tone down the visual impact of its signature wavy lines, so that the eye is drawn to the overall shape instead.'AIR' stamped on the lateral side serves as a reminder of the technical innovation inherent in the '97 – the first Nike silhouette to feature a full-length Max Air unit.
The Travis Scott x Air Max 270 React ENG 'Cactus Trails' showcases the Houston rapper’s unique design vision on a non-retro silhouette. Nike’s lifestyle runner is treated to rustic tones, highlighted by a cream textile upper with tonal TPU overlays and a brown nubuck toe. The collar, tongue and eyestay are accented with subtle pops of color, while the midsole gets a rough-hewn look, thanks to a crudely painted yellow finish that extends to the visible 270 Air sole unit. Cactus Jack branding at the heel is the finishing touch.
